Workshop Descriptions

All workshops can be held in my home or yours.  A minimum of 4 participants is required.   Attendance must be confirmed one week before the class and the workshop fee is due at this time.
For the "Unique Scarves" workshop,  participants will need a sewing machine.

Baking Workshops

All instruction, recipes and ingredients are included in the workshop fee.  Samples of each recipe are provided along with tea and coffee.  Participants are asked to bring their own equipment but if they are novice bakers,  spare equipment is available.

Holiday Cookies

During any holiday season, home baked cookies are a delight to serve and enjoy. In this workshop participants will prepare three types, each yielding at least two dozen. The dough will be made in class and baked at home or frozen for future use.  Butter is used for each recipe but shortening  can be substituted.  Please advise the instructor when registering.

Perfect Pastry

As pastry requires very few ingredients,  technique is critical.  In this workshop participants will prepare a foundation dough that can be used with both savoury and sweet fillings.  The dough should yield about three dozen tarts or three crusts.  The dough can be frozen before being rolled out, or frozen in tart or crust form.  Samples of pastry made with lard or with shortening will be provided so participants can determine their preference.

$ 55 per person

Scrumptious Scones

Learn the technique for making delicious scones to accompany soups or stews or as a treat with tea and coffee.  Participants will prepare one savoury recipe and one sweet.  Each recipe should yield about three dozen scones.  Once the liquid ingredients are added to the dry, the dough should be baked as soon as possible.  Butter is used for both recipes but shortening can be substituted.  Please advise the instructor when registering.

Jewellery Workshops

All instruction, equipment and materials will be provided for each workshop.

Jewellery 101

In this basic course, participants will make a practice key chain, earrings and bracelet using four basic tools,  The key chain is made with plastic beads while the earrings and bracelet are made with glass beads.  Participants will learn how to make hooks, "dangles",  how to use jump and split rings, crimps, end pins and nylon coated wire.  Once the basics are mastered,  the participant should be able to complete a necklace, multi-strand bracelet or necklace and a variety of earrings.

Wire work brooch

This workshop provides an opportunity to express your individuality as wire is difficult to alter once it's in position, so no two brooches can be made the same.  Using jewellery wire and a variety of beads including glass and metal,  participants will make two brooches in the colours they prefer.  The possibilities are endless using this material and these techniques.

$ 55 per person

Wire work bracelet

Using jewellery wire in different gauges along with various types of beads including glass and metal,  participants will make a bracelet in any shape and colour they desire.  Jewellery wire is very versatile so you are only limited by your imagination.

$ 55 per person

Dragonfly brooch

Create a one-of-a-kind brooch to capture the beauty of dragonflies.  Participants will make one small and one medium size brooch using a variety of beads.

$ 55 per person

Dragonfly necklace

Participants will make a dragonfly brooch then incorporate it into a necklace echoing or contrasting the colours and texture of the brooch.

$ 65 per person

Dragonfly-at-large

Add a personal touch to your home or garden by creating a big, bold dragonfly using colourful beads and galvanized wire (rust resistant).  Use a monochromatic palette or combine many colours to brighten your garden, pool, front yard or porch.  Display them anywhere you need a reminder of the beauty of nature.  Participants will make a miniature practice sample with small beads to learn the pattern then create the large version.

Unique scarves

Scarves are a welcome addition to any wardrobe and can make or break an outfit.  In this workshop we will make a one-of-a-kind scarf using a collection of fibres in differing colours and textures.  A special fabric is used as a base and fibres are added using temporary spray glue.  Another piece of the special fabric is added to the top and the entire piece is sewn on the machine.  The piece is then washed in water to dissolve the special fabric.  Once dry, beads are sewn on by hand.  Once completed,  the entire scarf can be washed by hand.  A large selection of fibres will be available.

$ 75 per person
